A word on food
I like food. The funny thing is that I like bad food and good food. Seriously…something about my Russian mother force feeding me when I was little (you know, so I could “be strong boy and grow into hairy Russian bear”). Now I can’t stay away from refrigerator left overs, if I know they’re in there.
Sometimes I’m hungry…but I’m never NOT hungry. Not sure what that means, but I’m always down to eat. Yesterday Ronny and I went to Cafe Habana. Jemaine Clement was there too, sporting a serious beard. Hats off.
Anyway, if you ever go there, don’t be dumb. Order the corn. Then order the Cuban sandwich. I didn’t get it, but I wish I did.
I digress. The point is that Ronny got enchiladas and couldn’t eat them because the Mole was a bit too much for him. He left most of the food on his plate. I got the El Pastor tacos and that’s why I wish I would’ve gotten the Cuban sandwich. The pork belly was a bit dry, and there was barely any pineapple in the mix. The rice was amazing, but so far the best El Pastor still lives at Chicago’s Big Star.
Regardless, I cleaned plate. I always do. In spite of myself. Sometimes I end up paying for it (I don’t mean with money, either). I should really say no if the food isn’t good. I really should.
A few hours after Cafe Habana, we ended up at a vegetarian restaurant and I ate split pea soup and some feaux corn bread. The soup was great but the bread was pretty awful … I ate half of it anyway.

The El Pastor tacos at Cafe Habana…meh.

Half chicken at East Side Cafe on 23rd between 1st and 2nd Ave. The stuffing was awesome…this was a great meal for around $10. Sorry, I already took a bite.

This was amazing…to bad it was in Chicago. Steak and Eggs at Orange with a Peel.
and speaking of Chicago…

…I’m going to miss the intensity of the Catch and Carry roadhouse turkey sandwich.
Here are a few things that I’ve made…

Pork tenderloin…check out the recipe here. It is AMAZING. One of the few things I’ve done enough to make it consistently well.

Filet Mignon with feta cheese and brussel sprouts with garlic, cracked pepper and sea salt. Very easy.

Beef loin with potatoes and carrots. This is what they’re talking about when they say “meat and potatoes”.
